DATE: Saturday 5th January 2022
LOCATION: Devbhumi Vidhyapith School
( east Nepal)
INSTRUCTOR : Samir Nepal and assistant Laxmi
Prasad Achara
PARTICIPANTS: 32 volunteers from community
SHELTERS BUILT: Standard RSK shelter and
Emergency RSK shelter
the team
BRIEF REPORT:
This was the first time that this group had built RSK shelters and the results were most impressive. Despite the start being delayed for a couple of hours by heavy rain the participants managed to complete all their objectives.
The building skills shown by participants enabled them to make local modifications to the shelters (which is just what we had hoped for as it indicated what adaptations a recipient family might make to their shelter).
These included using different lashing materials, use of split bamboo for tarpaulin wall support and sinking posts in the ground for the tarpaulin awning / extension support.
Overall, the group demonstrated their ability to rapidly prepare and assemble emergency shelters to a high standard. I am now looking forward to seeing them take this to their next level of training and building the double and 4 unit modular shelters ( temporary classrooms etc).
Feedback tells me that the training was a real team effort and an enjoyable experience for all the participants .
Thank you for all your hard work.
