RSK training Nepal 2022

Over a period of 8 years we have provided RSK shelter training to over a thousand local and international volunteers in Myanmar, Bangladesh and Nepal.

The first RSK training courses were jointly held with Myanmar Red cross in Yangon in 2015 and 2016. These courses were well attended by staff from the Shelter Cluster and local shelter NGOs. In 2016 we held the first RSK shelter preparedness training with Myanmar Red Cross in a Delta village.

A joint RSK training course with UNHCR  in Sittwe in 2017 was attended by staff from 20 INGOs and 12 local NGOs and 23 government engineers.

Many of these Myanmar trainees have taken their training and incorporated it into their field work. The NRC built RSKs at IDP camps in Rakhine State, the CDA trained communities in Northern Shan and the Myanmar Red Cross set up further preparedness courses in communities at risk from flash floods in the Delta.

In 2017, with the support of the Bangladesh CB Shelter Cluster and specifically the UNHCR , we built RSK shelters for Rohingya families in Kutupalong refugee camp.

In 2018 we were invited back by MSF to provide RSK training for staff  at their field hospital in the same camp.

From 2021 to 2023 we have been training RSK shelter volunteers in Nepal.  Five of these volunteers have been trained to instructor level and have formed an RSK shelter emergency response team. This team have recently been deployed to provide RSK shelters to earthquake and fire victims in remote communities in east and west Nepal.

RSK Shelter education program

Education is key to achieving our goal of making the reciprocal frame concept that is used by the RSK shelter, understood and available to everyone.

We have plans to introduce this using simple models at a secondary school level where it can have the maximum benefit to pupils, teachers and parents. Please contact us for further details.
